WHEELIEF: AN AUTOMATED GUIDED WHEEL-CHAIR

Advisor:

Dr. Ubaid Ullah Fiaz

Abstract:

Wheelief is a smart intelligent wheelchair that traverses through a guided path and acts as a personal assistant for physically challenged ones by enhancing their mobility and degree of control. It has various control features which include voice command-ability, joystick and eye blinks directed control. An Android app is developed for speech to text conversion and the textual string is transmitted to controller via blue-tooth. A Filter circuit is designed that takes raw signal from forehead through electroencephalogram(EEG) electrodes to removes unwanted components and amplify the signal for its further processing. This analog signal is then converted into a digital signal. Based on the detection of the pattern, micro-controller governs the 2-D movement. Stair climbing feature is also added in this wheelchair through a mature structural and mechanical design. It uses track mechanism and has automatic seat adjustment feature for climbing the stairs. Ultrasonic sensors are used to detect the presence of any nearby obstacles for collision avoidance.
