MONITORING ENERGY CONSUMPTION PATTERN IN UNIVERSITY HOSTELS

Advisor:

Dr. Muhammad Asghar Saqib

Abstract:

In University hostels the power consumption is irregular during winter season. Students use electric heaters, irons, electric kettles which is a burden for generators. This situation cause overloading of transformers which are designed for particular load and it does not include these high rated equipments. The main concept behind our project is the power regulation and continuous monitoring of the energy consumption curve. Our system is based on high computational power of STM32F429 controller. For the acquisition of the desired parameters weve got transducers; i.e. CT for current, PT for voltage. The parameters are kept for processing using a 12-bit inbuilt analog to digital converter. This data is moreover forward to a central database system on the internet using WIFI module. Most importantly all this monitoring is completing in a real time. This composed system will help authorities to make decisions concerning the installation of new distribution transformers, maintenance or up gradation of the existing ones. Installing this system aims to figure out these complexities in an economical and efficient manner.
