SMART GRID METERING AND DATA ANALYSIS USING LABVIEW

Advisor:

Dr. Syed Abdul Rahman Kashif

Abstract:

Smart grids are becoming more and more common in our societies with the advancements in technology. With the advancements in smart grids, the methods to monitor these grids also needs to be improved. The proposed project is to develop an efficient power quality analyzer with remote access to data through Wi-Fi that could run efficiently in standalone conditions. The parts of the project include the data acquisition of our grid data, its accurate measurement, its analysis and control universally from everywhere. NI myRIO is used in this project due to its efficient high speed processing for data acquisition purpose and its advance approach towards energy measurements.NI LabVIEW is used for analyzing the power system parameters mathematically and graphically by its GUI. Moreover, we can generate automatic tripping of load locally and remotely if its power system parameters are not up to the mark. As the main advantage of a smart grid is its communication properties, we have worked on three to four different methods of communicating the state of the grid to the required personnel. These methods include transmission of data through SMS, WAN and Wi-Fi.
